Directions:

Choose ONE event

1. Research it and write a paragraph describing the event in your own words
2. Find ONE picture online that represents your event
3. Find a non-Wikipedia website about your event
4. Add that event to the interactive time line created for this class on www.timetoast.com

• Civil Society

• Bystander

• What items should be in the foreground of the piece?
• In the background?
• What images do you want to receive the most attention?
• How might you use color, lines, and placement to emphasize important images?

The Arpillera should be constructed with the following constraints:

• 8×10 landscape (in size)
• No clip art or photo images
• Use only shapes such as circles, triangles, rectangles
• No typed text, if you use text it must be represented in another way
• Use only fill colors and/or patters

• What does your arpillera reveal about civil society? How does it relate back to  the arpilleristas of Chile?
• What suggestions do you have to change or continue what it going on in your arpillera?  How does this relate to other upstanders in Chile that helped the arpilleristas?
• What can an individual do to participate in making a more civil society? Provide examples from today and from Pinchet’s regime.
