1. Do Now:  At the top of the next left side page in your ISN – When did the Civil Rights Movement begin?  How do you know?  (there is NO right or wrong answer to this question – base it on your previous knowledge of the Civil Rights Movement and your opinion)
2. Civil Rights Timeline activity:  Students will be given a photo to match up to an event on our timeline.  After they have placed their picture, we will review the timeline as a class.  Students will then revisit their answer to the Do Now questions and share out.
3. Overview of the Common Writing Assessment (CWA) and discussion of the prompt (see below).
4. Distribute anticipation guides and begin working on them.
