After analyzing Hurston’s use of figurative language in the first chapter of the book, we will continue reading and responding to Their Eyes Were Watching God.

Objective:
*To identify figurative language and explain how it adds meaning to a text
*To trace the development of the theme of identity in Their Eyes Were Watching God

Do Now: On student page 67 in your class notebook, please respond thoughtfully and thoroughly to the following questions. 1.) What is your opinion of Their Eyes Were Watching God so far? What do you like or dislike about it? 2.) What does Zora Neale Hurston do to ensure that her opening chapter makes a lasting first impression?
